Text Box: Hi and welcome to the first HSSC Newsletter for members in 2009. We’ve got a fun packed year ahead of us, with a variety of fabulous events and entertainment booked for the next 10 months. It gives you even more reason to be part of our brilliant social club. With the economic situation the way it is, it makes more sense to utilise your social club and avoid the additional cost of taxi fares and highly priced ticket prices when we have this wonderful facility on our own doorsteps.
By forwarding you this regular newsletter, we hope to keep you posted on everything that is going on at the Club—not just details of our events but, how we are conducting our fundraising, introductions to the Committee, and other issues as they arise. I want to point out to you though that HSSC is your club, and as members should you have any ideas concerning content for this Newsletter or indeed the Club itself, it would be much appreciated. How about members celebrating important milestones, or reviews on events, for example?

Text Box: The Club requires a Treasurer to join our new Committee. The position involves providing financial guidance to the Club, to oversee the work of our Book-keeper and regular liaison between our bank and external accountants.
The ideal person for this position would already possess some financial experience as an accountant, banker or financial adviser and must have a desire to contribute to the village of Hardwick and its facilities.
Please refer all initial enquiries for the attention of Steve Rose, care of info@hardwicksportandsocialclub.co.uk.

Text Box: Further to our recent Committee Meeting, I am happy to inform you that this year’s chosen charity will be split equally between Headway and Macmillan Cancer Care as per suggestions received from members.

Headway is a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury. They offer a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care.  We shall be specifically supporting our local branch at Brookfields Hospital, Cambridge.

MacMillan Cancer Care exist to help improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families and carers.  Macmillan are a national charity.

The forms we received were all considered at the meeting, and we would like to thank all our members who submitted a charity for consideration.  On the forms received, all charities submitted carried a very strong reasoning behind why we should support them.  Therefore, we shall be inviting all members to send in their suggestions for 2010's charity later in the year.

Thank you for your continuing support and help with all our forthcoming fundraising efforts.
Text Box: The music of the 70’s helped us to raise £700 for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT). Hardwick Sports and Social Club held the charity gig and the music was provided by Fynnius Fogg. The band is made up of four schoolmates who played together until 1978, reformed in 1991 and have been fundraising for various charities ever since.
Their music is from the 60’s and 70’s and they try to recreate the typical village hall gig. More than 100 members enjoyed the evening, held last year, and the money was raised from ticket proceeds and a raffle.
A cheque was handed over at the Club by committee members to Helen Bearfield-Smith, the TCT’s regional appeals manager for East Anglia.

Any of you yet to pass on your forms to Diane must do so before the end of February before they must be re-proposed by two existing Club members and Club membership applied for again.
